Hello adventurers! Welcome back to our second devlog. In our first update, we introduced the journey of Salt & Spell and shared our excitement about crafting Emberveil, a magical RPG-sim experience that blends cozy village life with mystery and adventure.
Today, we’re pulling back the curtain a little more. We want to share what’s been happening behind the scenes, from worldbuilding and gameplay vision to our plans for community and early access.
Where We Are Right Now
The foundation of Emberveil is taking shape. We’ve made progress in three major areas:
- Website Launch – Our official home, saltandspell.com, is nearly complete. This will be your go-to place for devlogs, concept art, and exclusive updates.
- Prototype Development – We’re building the core gameplay loop: magic-learning systems, exploration mechanics, and farming basics that tie into the larger narrative.
- Art Direction – Emberveil isn’t just a game; it’s an experience. We’re working on visual concepts that reflect a world steeped in lore, mystery, and natural beauty.
Worldbuilding: The Land Cursed by Time
Every great RPG starts with a world that feels alive. Emberveil is set in a land burdened by a forgotten curse, where a magical academy becomes your beacon of hope.
You’re not just a student of magic—you’re a restorer of balance, someone who rebuilds what was lost while uncovering secrets hidden for centuries. Think Stardew Valley meets Witchbrook, but with the depth of narrative you’d expect from a fantasy epic.
