This time, we’re going deeper. Our prototype is growing roots, and the personality of Emberveil is starting to shine through. Today’s devlog is about how we’re shaping the game’s soul, from art and animation to the systems that will make your time in Emberveil truly magical.


Prototype Progress: The First Steps You Can Feel

Our top priority this month has been making Emberveil playable—even if it’s just a small slice of the big vision. The prototype now includes:

  • Movement & Controls – Walking around your future academy and village feels smoother every day.
  • Basic Interactions – Picking up items, opening menus, and early dialogue systems are live.
  • Art Testing – We’re experimenting with a pixel art style that feels whimsical but polished, something that stands out in the crowded indie space.

And yes—we’ve already had that magical moment of seeing our main character move across the world for the first time. It’s small, but it feels like a giant leap.


Designing a World with a Soul

What makes Emberveil special isn’t just its mechanics—it’s the way everything feels connected. We want every detail, from the architecture of the academy to the shimmer of magical herbs, to tell a story.

Here’s what we’ve been focusing on:

  • Color Palette – A mix of cozy earth tones with mystical accents, inspired by autumn forests and enchanted libraries.

Challenges & Decisions

Game development is about choices, and this month we faced a big one: How cozy should Emberveil feel compared to how mysterious it should be?

We’re aiming for balance—a world that feels safe enough to relax in, but mysterious enough to keep you curious and engaged.

We’ve also been refining our UI concept. Menus in magical games often feel clunky, but we want ours to be intuitive, thematic, and elegant—a spellbook you’ll love opening.
